There is nothing more authentic than visiting a French or Italian market. Colors, smell and local ambiance are guaranteed. From farmers’ markets to flea markets you can find it all. Here are just a couple of my favorite markets, but there are many more. Even the tiniest village has its own.
Valbonne: My absolute favorite market in the area is the market of Valbonne which takes place every Friday morning. Local and French specialties, handcraft as well as bags, linen and all kinds of other beautiful things are sold here in the most beautiful setting of the medieval alleys and in the main square.

Fayence: This lovely market takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning in the charming church square. Fayence itself is rather off the beaten tracks, embedded in the back country of our neighbor province Var it is absolutely worth a visit.

Saint Tropez: One of the most famous markets of the French Riviera takes place every Tuesday and Saturday all over the streets and squares in Saint Tropez. You can find everything here, fancy clothes, shoes, bags, specialties and lots of people. While in the spring and fall months you will really enjoy it, I rather not recommend it in the summer between June and August. Too many people and long hours to reach it.

Sanremo: There are plenty of people that come on Tuesdays and Saturdays in order to visit the famous street market. There might be a few interesting items to be found there, but generally they sell a lot of rubbish and fakes. My favorite market in Sanremo is the every-day market in the huge market hall. A great place with lots of local specialties and a great ambiance. Bellissimo e autentico!

Vence: Another authentic market is the one on Saturday morning in the picturesque main square of Vence. Lots of organic products, Socca, local cheese, olives, honey etc. And all around the square many beautiful Cafés that add to the Provençal atmosphere.
